SATURDAY AFTERNOON B-MOVIE CRAPFEST: “City Beneath The Sea” (1971)

Irwin Allen had four, count ‘em, four SF series running on TV in the second half of the sixties, an accomplishment that has never been equaled, though the 90s Trek franchise came as close as anyone ever has with three series running over the course of a decade. That in no way prevented Mr. Allen from trying for five, however, and though ultimately he failed, he still produced a film that is ripe for our riffing.

EPISODE REVIEW: Caprica: “There Is Another Sky” (Episode 5)

Ratings-wise, Caprica has been a Mister Toad’s Wild Ride of awfulness thus far. From a mediocre debut of 1.6 million viewers, we’ve dropped an average of 200,000 viewers every week. How low can it go? Well, pretty darn low, it seems. Last week’s rather bizarre bit of counter programming - running a show no one cares about (Caprica) against a show everyone cares about (The Olympics) - went about as well as you’d expect.

(Prime Time Repeat) EPISODE REVIEWS: Warehouse 13: "Elements" (Episode 5) AND: Stargate Universe: "Air" (Episode 1)

Syfy continues to fill otherwise-dead air with prime-time repeats of last year's shows. Maybe this is because they're trying to bring everyone up to speed before the new season starts, or maybe it's just because Caprica is crashing and burning, and they don't know what to do. Either way, since it's been a super-slow year thus far, we're covering 'em.

REPUBLIBOT WEEKEND MOVIE PREVIEW: Movies Opening 2-26-10

Finally! A half-way decent week for new movies. It isn’t huge, but it is definitely a step in the right direction. I was starting to feel like I was stuck in a Russian love story – one in which passion is demonstrated by not speaking to each other in order to avoid finding out damning information that you could trade to the government in return for the basic necessities of life. Ahhhhh, romance.

THINGS WE'RE DEFINITELY INTERESTED IN: The Thirty-Second Season Of Doctor Who

So this is the new trailer for the new season - the 32nd one! - of Doctor Who. It's all a tease. Primarily we just see some hokey clearly-not-from-the-series footage (As opposed to the normal hokey footage culled from the first few eps) as a way of selling us on excitement and hot chicks in short skirts, without letting out any spoilers.

BREAKING NEWS: "Stargate: Universe" has been picked up for a second season!

John Scalzi, the creative consultant for Stargate: Universe has mentioned in his blog that he's been signed on for the second season of the series, and is already hard at work looking at scripts and offering feedback.
There may have been an official announcement prior to now, but if there has, I haven't heard about it until Mr. Scalzi mentioned it just now. He goes on to say

REALSPACE: Obama’s Vision For Space Exploration. Haven't we seen this before?

One aspect of the President’s administration that mystifies me, and which I don’t think gets as much press as it really should is his opinion on the Space Program and/or NASA (Arguably, the two are not the same).

OBSERVATIONS: Lost: “Lighthouse” (Season 6, Episode 5)

Since R2 and I are both covering this show, and since he tends to concentrate a bit more on the events, and I tend to concentrate a bit more on the implications, I’ve (Unilaterally) decided to stop doing full reviews - which are time-consuming and kind of a bit dull - and just go straight to the good stuff. I’m assuming I’ll hear no end of screaming about this at the next staff meeting, but for now…
